To all Equity Members and our Senior, Summer, and August Swimmers at Rock Creek Pool,

Happy 2020! We look to enter this new decade with continued improvements to our pool and surrounding facilities.

We are on target for an early April completion of a new deck adjacent to the pavilion and over the pump house. We are in the process of finalizing proposals for: (1) resurfacing the tennis courts and replacing the fences around the tennis and basketball courts; and (2) repairing all our street pole lights and upgrading those fixtures and others to LED lights.

The other major cost before Opening Day, Friday, May 15, will be re-plastering the old part of the pool that hasn’t been done in a while and its condition is deteriorating.

Below are other updates on other key pool items.

RCP Board

At the Annual Meeting in September the Equity Members selected seven members for a new two-year term. Those eight are: Kent Allen; Jim Hermes; Rebecca Luib; Jaime McKenna; Tim Nealis; Jane Ward; and Sharon Winick. They join the other eight members who have one year remaining on their terms (see Board). Consistent with our bylaws the new board selects the officers at its first meeting; the following board members were elected for the following officer positions:

  • President – Iain Gold
  • Vice President – Marge Martin
  • Treasurer – Joel Rubin
  • Secretary – Sharon Winick

Selling Equity Membership & Dues Deadline

As we prepare for the upcoming season, we need to know if there are Equity Members who wish to sell their memberships and we also want to prepare you to register and pay for the season in a timely manner. If your family has not been using the pool, we ask that you consider selling your membership to make space for families on our extensive waitlist. Please contact by March 13, 2020, to sell your membership and to receive a refund of your $1,150 equity share.

We offer Senior Swim privileges for $200 (current fee) to Equity Members who are age 65 years or older with at least 20 years of Equity Membership. Senior Swim privileges are limited to the Account Holder and their spouse/partner. You can still purchase Daily Guest Passes to bring visitors, use the tennis courts, and attend social events. Your use of the pool experience will be the same and by becoming a Senior Swimmer you are allowing four families to move up the waitlist. There are currently a few spots available so if you are interested in Senior Swim privileges, please notify

Dues & Assessments

As we articulated at the beginning of the modernization process, the Board approved a combination of a dues increase, a special member assessment (applied to Equity Members’ ownership in the pool) and a capital assessment for a period of three years – last year was the final year! Therefore, this year there are no assessments and the 2020 season dues remain as follows:

  • Equity Member $595
  • Senior Swim $200
  • Waitlist-Summer Swim $725
  • Waitlist-August Swim $275

In an effort to better manage and predict our income stream and to help families on the waitlist plan their summers, the Board has approved an earlier registration cycle. Registration will open at the beginning of March with payment due by March 31, 2020. We need your cooperation so that offers can be extended to families on the waitlist in April. This will also help us to notify families receiving Waitlist-August Swim earlier in the summer.

  • February: Equity Members electing to sell – please inform us ASAP or by March 13*
  • First week of March: Season Dues Registration notice emailed
  • By March 31: pay season dues, request waivers (see below for more details on waivers)
  • April: Extend offers to waitlist families (based on Equity sales and waivers)
  • May 1: Late fees assessed
  • By mid-June: Offers to Waitlist-August Swim families

Season Waivers

For families with Waitlist-Summer Swim privileges, the Board approved more closely aligning the waiver rules with those for Equity Members. Beginning this year, Summer Swim families on the waitlist for Equity Membership may only waive season dues twice while on the waitlist. If you have previously waived season dues twice, you will be granted one additional waiver. In addition, the fee for a season waiver will increase to $50 (from $25).

ProsToYou is continuing as our tennis provider for the 2020 season. We already have a strong tennis base and ProsToYou is offering more programs to build the tennis community. Spring and Summer programs for all ages and skill levels, including the ever-popular Summer weekday morning program, will be offered. New this year will be regular full day (9:00am-4:00pm) and half day (9:00am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-4:00pm) camp options. Tennis and camp programs are only open to Rock Creek Pool Equity Members and Waitlist-Summer and August Swim families during the months that they have swim privileges. Please see PTY-Rock Creek Programs for more information.

Swim and Dive Teams

The Rock Creek Fins will compete in swimming and diving again this year with the swimming Fins competing in Division I of the Montgomery County Swim League and the diving Fins in Division 1 of Montgomery County Diving League. Registration for both teams is through a separate dedicated team registration platform. More information will be posted on our website as it becomes available.

RCP is run by a group of volunteers and we depend on all of YOU to help each year in a variety of ways: social, grounds clean-up, organizing an event, communication, purchasing food for an event, etc. Please plan to support your community pool by volunteering your time and expertise.

As always, your comments are appreciated – you can reach me at

* Families offered Equity Membership pay the one-time $1,150 equity share in addition to the annual season dues. The sooner we can inform new Equity Members, the better they can budget. We can accept membership sales in March or April and still make New Member offers but more notice is appreciated.
